What clothes do I wear when cycling on a bike commute?

BikeBlogger’s Guide To Bike Clothing

WARM WEATHER: ABOVE 50F HEAT INDEX DAILY LOW

  • Helmet (lots of vents)
  • Shirt (cotton t-shirt, or athletic golf polo)
  • Shorts (gym shorts, or golf shorts)
  • Socks (any)
  • Gloves (fingerless type)

COOL WEATHER: SUB 50F HEAT INDEX DAILY LOW

  • Helmet (lots of vents)
  • Headband (cover ears)
  • Shirt (cotton t-shirt, or athletic golf polo)
  • Overshirt (pullover fleece)
  • Pants (joggers, or golf pants)
  • Boxer briefs (windblock material or front panel) socks (any)
  • Gloves (full finger type)

COLD WEATHER: SUB 40F HEAT INDEX DAILY LOW

  • Helmet (few vents)
  • Headband (cover ears))))
  • Neck gaiter (cover neck, mouth and nose)
  • Jacket (windblock material and fleece)
  • Shirt (cotton t-shirt, or athletic golf polo)
  • Pants (joggers, or golf pants)
  • Boxer briefs (windblock material on front panel) gloves (lobster claw type)
  • Glove liners (if needed)
  • Socks (thick)
  • Sandwich bags (over toes to block wind)

In summary

Summer: T-Shirt and shorts

Spring and Fall: Overshirt, pants, ear covers, windblock underwear, full finger gloves.

Winter: Jacket, pants, helmet with no vents, ear covers, neck gaiter, windblock underwear, thick gloves and socks.

TIP: IN THE HEAT, DEW POINT ABOVE 60F IS MUGGY AND STICKY FEELING, DEW POINT ABOVE 70F IS VERY HUMID.

PRO TIP: IN THE COLD, COVER AS MUCH SKIN AS POSSIBLE.

NOTE: I LEFT THE CAMERA BATTERY DOOR OPEN AND THE VIDEO ENDED ABRUPTLY. YOU CAN HEAR THE BATTERY KNOCKING AROUND INSIDE THE CAMERA UNTIL IT JUST CAN’T KNOCK ANYMORE.
