How I scooted in Los Angeles among light and shadows. After several days of cold, rain, and even hail here in Los Angeles, the weather’s turned good, with cloudless blue skies overhead, and Southern California at its most beautiful. Short sleeve temperature, yet there’s a layer of brilliant white snow over the high hills and mountain tops just north of the San Gabriel Valley east of Pasadena.

Scooted today with a very view of the snow-capped peaks
There’s time today for a mid afternoon scooter ride for me at the Lario Park Trail in Irwindale, north along the San Gabriel River, with the best views of the very close snow-capped peaks.
Because of the recent bad weather, plus household jobs, I haven’t scooted in eleven days.
Scooter rides make you feel better
It would be possible to say why bother on this day, and keep saying it for enough days so my kick scooting becomes a distant memory rather than a valued current activity. But not today. Get out there, you white-haired old guy I see in the mirror. Go for a ride. You’ll feel better energy because of it.
On this particular mid-afternoon ride, what caught my attention in the winter afternoon sunlight was the striking contrast between light and shadow on the ascending ridge crests on the west side of the river, above the stone quarry.
Razor scooters, electric powered bicycles, and figuring out life’s journey
I saw a couple of young kids on Razor scooters, and more riders than usual on electric powered bicycles. I enjoyed a nice chat with a teenager, Alex, on an electric bike, at the top of the trail. He’s a high school grad with a restaurant job, trying to figure out what’s next on his life’s journey.
And on the descent, other people on the trail spoke to me as I scooted past, like a lady pedestrian out with her family who nodded her approval when I answered her question that I’d ridden all the way to the top of the trail where the upper bridge crosses to the residential enclave called Mountain Cove.
Join the community of the living
So, a great day to get out and become part of this beautiful area, and to join the community of the living, engaged with the world around us. Be alive.
It trumps staying home sitting mindlessly in front of the TV.
