Brompton electric recall for bikes purchase between May 2020 and February 2021

This recall doesn’t effect all Brompton electric folding bikes (Only between May 2020 and February 2021). But it’s still recommended that you check to make sure yours isn’t experiencing this potentially dangerous problem. We truly hate to see any of our fellow Brompton owners getting injured in crashes. So, please take extra precautions to keep yourself from getting seriously hurt.

Don’t get us wrong. Brompton bicycles are extremely well made, and is one of the best folding bicycles for commuting. So, please don’t let this scare you from buying from this iconic brand.

A small possibility of failure

Brompton has stated that there’s a small possibility, when under specific circumstances, that the system can fail. If this failure happens, the electric system could continue to provide assistance to the motor. The result could be continued forward momentum, even when the rider stops pedaling.

Even though Brompton has mentioned that the risk of injury is very low, with only one reported fault that didn’t result in any injury or accident, they still recommend that you contact them.

To see if your Brompton electric is affected

Brompton electric owners are told to visit to check to see if their bike is affected, and for full information on how to update their firmware.

Affected customers will be given a voucher of $30 for each bike affected, which can be redeemed on the Brompton website.
