Xootr MG Scooter Night Ride

Last night I went on a night ride on my Xootr MG Scooter. The night before this I did the same thing. This wasn’t just for commuter purposes but to also put it to the ultimate test.

I rode down the semi steep hill to East Ridge Road and met my dad about a half mile away. We then rode the rest of the way to East Ridge Restaurant and Steakhouse, a total of 1.3 miles. My dad on the other hand rode a total of 4.3 miles and was shocked when I looked it up on my phones GPS.

Many times before this, we had this same discussion. It was a debate over if the Xootr MG Scooter would handle the 5 miles he commutes to his job every day. When he admitted that the 4 miles didn’t feel like much it was obvious that the Xootr MG Scooter is more than adequate for the job.

Disproving Some Xootr MG Scooter Myths

At first I was very reluctant to consider the Xootr MG Scooter as a serious commuting machine. Many reviews online have stated that the Xootr MG Scooter is plain out dangerous. Some have said that any little bump or imperfection in the road will cause it to topple over.

During my night rides I have ridden over many substantial bumps and rough patches with no problems whatsoever. The Xootr MG Scooter glided right over them with some slight vibrations.

For large potholes and grates, or large debris in the road, I was able to  swerve around them with ease. Xootr has added a reverse fork on all their scooters making them very stable, and even easier to turn than a bicycle.

The brakes were also very effective seeing that there’s a back foot brake, and front hand brake. I was able to stop at all intersections with no problem.

Xootr MG Scooters Are Super Portable

While at the restaurant my we both ordered coffees and a small meal while our Xootr MG Scooters were nicely tucked out of the way.  My Xootr MG Scooter easily fit onto the chair beside me. While my dad just put his on the floor.

For the longest time I’ve been encouraging my dad to get the carry strap even though the Xootr MG Scooter only weighs 10 lbs. This enables me to carry the Xootr MG Scooter over my shoulder for longer distances, and not accidentally hit anyone with it.

Some Xootr MG Scooter Safety Precautions

While out riding a Xootr MG Scooter it’s important to include some safety gear, especially at night. On our way back home from the restaurant, my dad was riding behind me. I could see in my helmet mirror that almost all the drivers were switching lanes at the last minute. This meant that they couldn’t see us too well in the dark.

That’s when I decided to have my dad get in front of me seeing that I have a reflective helmet with a light on the back. Immediately I could see the huge difference. All the drivers could see that we were there and started switching lanes much sooner.

At the last intersection my dad almost got ran over even though he has the same front light as me. I use a front light that has 350 lumens. This helps to see the road in front of me, and also prevent from getting hit. But I’m also a big advocate of using other safety gear. No matter what type of personal transportation I ride I always include the following safety gear.

  • Reflective helmet at all times.
  • Cycling gloves for grip and control.
  • Front and rear lights for at night.
  • Clear cycling glasses to protect eyes from debris at night.
  • Carry cell phone for emergencies.
