What Makes Napa Wood Fired Pizza The Best?

There we were again. Another Italian pizza shop. Around this time, we had been to many pizza shops, and we knew exactly what makes pizza great. This was our very first time going to Napa Wood Fired Pizza, and we had no idea what to expect. We knew that we were going to be eating pizza, but weren’t sure how good it was going to be. Or if the service would be all that good.

All we had to go on, was their reputation of being the best wood fired pizza in the city of Rochester, New York. Would they live up to our high expectations, or would they be all hype?

To Napa Wood Fired Pizza We Went

It was a Thursday afternoon. The sun was shining, and it was around 65 degrees outside. I called my buddy Louie, and told him I was going to take him somewhere very special. Louie is about as Italian as you can get, and he definitely loves his pizza and coffee.

After picking me up, and arriving at Napa Wood Fired Pizza, we were pleasantly surprised. The outside of the building looked like an old house that would be in the villages of Italy. It set the mood for what would come next.

Entering Napa Wood Fired Pizza

Upon entering Napa Wood Fired Pizza, the inside area was nicely decorated with amazing pictures. And the old style wooded ceilings, that were about 8 feet tall, were a great touch. Plus, on the wall hung an award plaque, just to remind us that they were nominated as having the best pizza around.

On this particular day the place was not busy, with only a few other people eating a few pizza’s, at a table across from us. As we were seated by the host, who was very friendly and polite, the other customers smiled politely. We ended up having a very pleasant conversation with them about the pizza, and they said that they loved it.

Napa Wood Fired Pizza Had Great Customer Service

Our waitress came over quickly and asked us what we wanted to drink. Louie loves his coffee just as much as I do. He has been known to walk up to the owner of a place, and give him hell for serving burnt or stale coffee. As we both ordered a cup, we gave each other a look as if to say, here comes the moment of truth. Fortunately, when the coffee arrived, it had a bit of strength as a reminder of how they serve it in Italy. But it was fresh, and absolutely not burnt. So far, they had passed the strict coffee test.

The waitress also came around very often to see how we were doing. She asked if we needed more coffee, and how the pizza tasted. We felt very welcome during the time we were there, and the waitress made sure that our orders were correct. So how did the pizza taste? I’m about to tell you.

Napa Wood Fired Pizza Tasted Great

Out came two Margarita Pizzas with wood fired mushrooms, and black olives. The pizza was nice and crispy, but wasn’t overcooked. Unlike a few other places we’ve been to before, and will never return to again, the pizza didn’t crumble like plaster.

Also, our pizzas were nice and hot, with the steam being very visible. In fact, the pizza’s were so fresh and hot, we had to wait until they cooled off. When we were able to eat them, we could see the lightly toasted crust on the bottom, and the cheese would stretch when we took bites. And let’s not forget the wood fired mushrooms, that were cooked in olive oil. Plus the black olives added the finishing touches.

During the time we were eating the pizza’s, we noticed that there wasn’t one ounce of oil on the metal sheets that they came out on. Unlike the commercialized pizza’s, these two had an incredible non oily taste.

Napa Wood Fired Pizza Had Clean Facilities

What impressed us the most was how clean the place was. There were no crumbs or dirt on the tables and floors. And the silverware and cups didn’t have any dried up food or lipstick on them. Yes, we’ve been to places that had these disgusting problems, and we’ve walked right out. Our feelings on this is that, there’s no excuse for having dirty eating utensils and cups.

We also checked out the bathrooms, and they were spotless. The toilets and sinks were clean, and the floors didn’t have dirt spots all over them. A few places we’ve been to, has had toilets that look like they haven’t been cleaned in years. And holes and flaking paint on the walls. If the bathrooms are dirty, it’s a sure tell-tale sign, that the rest of the place is also filthy.

Fortunately, the bathrooms were not only clean, they also had these neat little towels to dry your hands with, instead of paper towelling . We could tell that they checked the bathrooms often, because they always had fresh towels when we went in there.

Would I recommend Napa Wood Fired Pizza?

A huge happy yes! Napa Wood Fired Pizza had great tasting pizza that was cooked just right, and had a phenomenal tasting sauce. It wasn’t greasy and the toppings were delicious. Also being a few coffee crazed Italians, the coffee was excellent as far as we were concerned. It wasn’t watered down, and not burnt or stale.

The customer service was also above average. Upon entering, we were immediately seated, and our waitress quickly took our order. She also made sure that our pizza’s were served within a reasonable amount of time, and everything was correct. And most importantly, she came around often, and didn’t forget about us.

Napa Wood Fired Pizza is on the expensive side, and the crust is a little thin for what you pay. It’s not as authentic as the thick pizza that they serve in Italy. But compared to the commercialized competition in Rochester, New York, I’d say it’s the best tasting. And definitely the freshest.
